Chapter Nine: Killing Discovery:

Chapter Nine: Killing Discovery:

I awoke alone and naked the next morning. This time, I remembered what happened. Kaoru had come into my room last night and slept with me. I didn’t really feel anything at first. I understood why it happened. Yet, I wasn’t thinking about that at the time. Something about Kaoru just didn’t sit well with me. I knew that he had killed Aki somehow. With that thought in my bed, I began to piece together the thoughts that I knew about that creep so far.

First off, he is out of my bed by surprise. That’s nothing to be alarmed about. Most guys creep out after sex in the wee hours of the morning to avoid cuddling with their one-night stand. Next, Kaoru somehow managed to get my phone number and home address. Kind of a rotten trick for some guys to pull on the girls they are stalking. Also, what do I know about Kaoru himself? Only his first name and nothing else. He knows a little bit about me though. With all of that in my head, I realized that I could be dealing with a potential murderer here.

Chapter Eight: The Death of a Star:

Chapter Eight: The Death of a Star:

For the next five weeks, nothing happened. I brushed off Kaoru’s threat from that night. Maybe he won’t do anything after all. Now, my life can truly go back to normal. It did; for a little while. Aki and my families all had dinner together. I tried my best not to think about Kaoru’s threat. He does not own me. I am marrying Aki and that’s final. Aki’s mother made us a great dinner. It’s only been him and her for so many years. His father died when he was really small. So, my fiancée had to be the man of the house. I get the feeling that his mother is going to be living with us after we get married. It’s actually not as bad as it sounds. His mother is a nice woman. Aki’s mother stood up from the table.

“I would like to offer a toast to my son and his soon-to-be bride!” she said.

Chapter Seven: Warning:

Chapter Seven: Warning:

My birthday weekend ended on a good note. I didn’t see Kaoru again that whole time. Good of me, obviously. The last time I needed was to be reminded of my mistake on my birthday. I just enjoyed the rest of my weekend with my friends and fiancée. It didn’t take me long to get used to the ring on my finger. Maybe marrying Aki won’t be such a bad time. He and I can get married and I can never speak about my fling at all. Or at least that was the original plan, anyway…

We met it back to Tokyo by evening. My family waited for me at home with a big dinner. My mom had made all of my favorite foods as a welcome treat. I happily ate and told them about my trip and engagement to Aki. (Well, most about my trip. I didn’t dare tell them about Kaoru.) They were all so happy for me.

Chapter Six: The Proposal:

Chapter Six: The Proposal:

The rest of my weekend went on just smoothly. I haven’t run into Kaoru for the rest of the day. I kept telling myself it was just a fling between him and me and it was over now. My friends and boyfriend didn’t need to know what happened last night. I was going to bury my drunken one-night stand and never think about it again. I was just going to get on with my life as I normally did. It worked… for a little while. Then, my plan to forget unraveled from there.

It started to crash at dinner time. We all went to this pricey restaurant. Plus, we got dressed up for the evening. I had a slight suspicion that my friends were planning something. We don’t normally go out to any fancy places unless one of them as an announcement to make. So, what good fortune has fallen my friends this evening?

Chapter Five: Rabbit in the Trap:

Chapter Five: Rabbit in the Trap:

Breakfast was going fine when I heard my cell phone buzz. I tried to ignore it at first in fears that it would be Kaoru again. The buzzing stopped for a short time. I thought it was alright from there. Then, my phone buzzed again. I kept trying to ignore it, but it just wouldn’t stop. My friends finally looked up at me.
“Aren’t you going to answer that?” Kiku asked me. I quickly shook my head.

“No,” I said. My phone buzzed again. I tried to force myself to grin. “Why won’t he just hang up?” I thought. “Why won’t he leave me alone?” I looked at my friends, nervously. I gave them a matching laugh.
“It’s probably a wrong number,” I said. They didn’t seem to believe me. Aki looked at me with slight concern.

Chapter Four: The Hunt Begins:

Chapter Four: The Hunt Begins:

I sat there in the bed, naked and confused. I tried to piece together what had happened in my mind. Yesterday was my birthday. The girls and I went out to the bar. Then, I met a cute stranger named Kaoru at the bar. I ordered many drinks and hung out with him. And then… It goes hazy from there. I took a moment to think about all of that. I must have blacked out at the bar. Then, where am I and who carried me here? Then, I looked at the text message again. I shuddered at the words. That’s when my deepest fear struck me.

“Oh no!” I said softly to myself. Did I… cheat on Aki? I shook my head. No, I couldn’t have! It was just a drunken one-night stand! I love him too much to stray! No, I couldn’t have. It was just a one-night stand. Yeah, that’s it. It was only a one-night stand. I got too drunk and don’t remember a thing. I just need to get up, get dressed, and get out of here—where ever this place is. I quickly shook my head. Can’t think about that now. I have to get out of here. Right! I quickly leapt out of bed and looked around for my clothes. It took me a minute, but I managed to find most of them. I couldn’t find my panties, however. I’ll look for them later. Once I got dressed, I quickly and quietly left the room.

Chapter Three: Night of Lovers:

Chapter Three: Night of Lovers:

I’m still trying to piece together that night I ended up in Kaoru’s room. It all happened so fast. I know that I was at the bar in the beginning. He offered to buy me a drink and I accepted. We were talking and drinking. Well, I was doing most of the drinking. Kaoru just watched me and talked the whole time. This moment was rather odd for me. I don’t normally drink. My family had warned me off of such. Maybe it was my birthday. Maybe it was the cute stranger next to me. But for some reason, I kept on drinking and drinking. It started out with one drink of sake. Then, one became two. Soon, two became four and the drinks kept increasing. I didn’t seem to know how to stop. My stranger only watched me drink up. I looked over at him in happy, flooded haze.

Chapter Two: Stranger at the Bar:

Chapter Two: Stranger at the Bar:
Okinawa is beautiful this time of year. It is like summer all of the time for me. My family and I always vacation here during my breaks. I guess it wouldn’t be bad to go here twice. The flight was a nice and quick one for me. I just slept peacefully the whole way. Unlike Kiku and Hikari, I do well with plane trips. I had to sit by Hikari to keep her from having a panic attack. I leaned into her ear at one point.
“Shhh,” I whispered. “It’s okay; just think about all of the fun we’re going to be having this weekend.” My friend nodded at me quickly. She slowly made herself relax. I gave her a calm little smile.

Chapter One: The Summer it All Ended:

Chapter One: The Summer it All Ended:
I met Kaoru while I was on vacation with my friends. It was my birthday then. My friends decided to take me out to Okinawa for the weekend. This was quite the surprise to be honest with you. The whole plan went like this:
Back then, I worked at my family’s art dealership. I am to become the sole heir later this year. That day was one of last good days that I would ever have. My morning started out great. I woke up to a text message from my mother. “Happy 20th, Setsuna!” it read. I couldn’t help but to smile. “Thanks mom,” I thought. I got and went through my daily routine to get ready for school and work. They went all out for breakfast for me this morning. I got my favorite dishes today. The chef made me Pork Shogayaki for breakfast this morning. You can imagine my shock when I saw that on the table with steamed rice and ginger tea waiting on the table for me. I had to blink to see if I was dreaming.

Devil's Scandal-- Prologue

Devil’s Scandal

Prologue:

*Setsuna*

I don’t really know what went wrong with my life. I used to have it all. I came from a rich and powerful family. The Hirata clan was the most powerful family in Tokyo. They owned all things beautiful. For generations, they were art dealers. Hirata’s art dealership was the best in the country. My grandfather proudly told me the rags to riches story over and over during my childhood. Apparently, my family started out poor, but we built ourselves up to the top where we are today. (Okay, there might be some myths hiding there, but I didn’t care at the time. I was just proud of my family as much as my grandfather was.) I was to be the heir to that mighty dynasty. That wasn’t all that I had going for me. I had always grown up as a social butterfly. I had many friends throughout my school days. Many tried to get my phone number. None of them could ever get close to me. All except for one. I’ll talk about him later.
